Description: Large 2-piece sideboard with molded, slightly overhanging top. Top with rounded corners and rounded segments conforming to recessed lower central portion. Upper section: 2 bowfront drawers with concealed finger-grip pulls flanking a central dropfront storage compartment seperated by upper columns. Lower section: 2 bowfront cupboard doors on each side of a large, recessed central paneled and chamfered cupboard seperated by 4 turned and carved columns. Molded bowfront base with 4 front elaborately carved paw feet that are continuations of columns. Massive turned vase rear feet. 
Materials: Mahogany solids and veneers. Pine secondary.
Dimensions: Height: 43". Width: 74". Depth: 23".
Locality and Period: Large East coast furniture centers. c. 1830.
Comments: Classical or Empire sideboards are considerably less ornate than those of the Federal era. Sideboards of this sort are noted for their fine graining and detailed carvings. These pieces go well with modern furnishings and are useful for storage.

Description: Tall lift-top chest-over-drawers with locking, slightly overhanging top. Well is divided into 2 sections. Protruding moldong at base of well. Below, 2 half-length, locking drawers. Unique turned legs continuations of lower section stiles. Dovetailed construction.
Materials: Maple. Pine secondary.
Dimensions: Height: 36-3/4". Width: 37-1/2". Depth: 19".
Locality and Period: Ohio Valley or Kentucky. c. 1825.
Comments: Used to store sugar and other expensive foodstuffs such as tea and coffee, all sections feature locks for security.

Sheraton Mahogany Regency Armchair

Description: Armchair in klismos shape. Rectangular top rail of solid mahogany with figured mahogany panel curving in at center. Reeded stiles curved back toward top rail. Carved, curved rail set midway across tapered stiles. Stop-reeded arms curving away from rear stiles to vase-shaped front supports. Round front legs tapered, reeded and turned with ring and ball over arrow feet. Plain rear legs flared back from seat to floor.
Materials: Mahogany solids and veneers. Oak secondary. Modern Upholstery.
Dimensions: Height: 34", 18-1/2" to seat. Width: 20-1/2". Depth: 20".
Locality and Period: England. c. 1815.
Comments: This elegant Sheraton design in the klismos form was introduced at the beginning of the 19th century. Very similar to examples by Duncan Phyfe in America.

Description: Lift-top chest with molded, slightly overhanging edge. Well has small lift-top till over a concealed till drawer at upper left. Protruding molding at base of well and shaped bracket feet. 6-board, dovetailed construction.
Materials: Cherry & pine with red wash. Pine secondary. Iron butt hinges.
Dimensions: Height: 23-1/2". Width: 49-1/2". Depth: 22".
Locality and Period: New England west to Missouri, south to the Carolinas. c. 1830.
Comments: 6-board chests were designed to store clothing, blankets and other bulky items. They were favored by rural carpenters because they were easier to make than taller chest-over-drawers.

Description: Commode with removable, overhanging, molded top and splashboard of white marble. Full-length drawer decorated with incised floral forms over paneled cupboard door and 2 half-length drawer. Paneled sides. Plain skirt and molded base. Shaped stiles with incised decoration terminating in block feet and pocelain casters. 
Materials: Cherry. Pine secondary. Top white marble. Pulls; stamped brass plates with bail handles. Porcelain casters. 
Dimensions: Height: 37". Width: 30". Depth: 15-3/4".
Locality and Period: Large factories throughout the East and Midwest. c. 1875.
Comments: More expensive that all-wood pieces, marble-top commodes were popular and practical since commodes were constantly getting wet, the marble top protected the wood. Such pieces may have been part of a bedroom set that might also have included tables and bureaus.

Description: Large storage piece with overhanging, molded and scalloped cornice. 2-door cupboard with grain painted, paneled doors and center divider. Interior has one full length shelf with clothing hooks on right side and two additional removable shelves on left. Lower section having two half width drawers and plinth-like base. Paneled sides and back. Knock-down construction.  
Materials: Walnut and grain painted faux burl. Pine secondary. Brass pulls.
Dimensions: Height: 85". Width: Body 52", Crown 57-1/2". Depth: Body 19-1/2", Crown 21-1/2".
Locality and Period: Midwest, marked: Concordia, MO. c.1870-80.
Comments: Closets were rare in most houses and apartments until the late 19th century making large wardrobes like this a necessity. The knock-down construction of this piece makes for simple transportation and setup. The removable interior features lends this wardrobe to many practical modern uses.

Walnut "Jenny Lind" Poster Baby Bed

Description: Short child's bed with 4 matching spool-turned high posts with turned and carved flame finials. Slender spool-turned spindles connecting top and lower rails. Rail height rectangular blocks at the corners continue down to turned legs and cylindrical feet. Plain side rails fitted with cross slats to support mattress.

Locality and Period: Throughout the United States. c. 1875.
Comments: Johanna Maria Lind (October 6, 1820 – November 2, 1887), better known as Jenny Lind, was a Swedish opera singer , often known as the "Swedish Nightingale". One of the most highly regarded singers of the 19th century, she is known for her performances in soprano roles in Sweden and across Europe, and for an extraordinarily popular concert tour of America beginning in 1850. Many places and objects have been named for Lind, during her visit to America, she was reported to have slept in a bed with turned spindles, leading to the naming of the style of crib or baby bed with vertical bars on all sides as a "Jenny Lind crib" (or cot or cradle).
