Sheraton Mahogany Regency Armchair Item #: AF0863 Description: Armchair in klismos shape. Rectangular top rail of solid mahogany with figured mahogany panel curving in at center. Reeded stiles curved back toward top rail. Carved, curved rail set midway across tapered stiles. Stop-reeded arms curving away from rear stiles to vase-shaped front supports. Round front legs tapered, reeded and turned with ring and ball over arrow feet. Plain rear legs flared back from seat to floor. Materials: Mahogany solids and veneers. Oak secondary. Victorian Golden Oak tete-a-tete Item #: AF0835 Description: Conversational seat, or tete-a-tete, with 2 wide balloon-form backs tapering to a pierced & leafy, carved scroll-cut section above shaped rectangular seat facing opposite directions. Curved end arms over turned spindles & arm supports. Turned legs joined by turned stretchers. Materials: Quartersawed oak and oak. Dimensions: Height: 36", 17" to seat. Width: 42". Depth: 26. Locality and Period: Factories throughout the East and Midwest. c. 1890-1900. Comments: Innovative forms like the tete-a-tete, a 2-seat conversational seat, were first introduced in the 1820's and 1830's and became more popular as the century continued. Carved Needlepoint Corner Chair Item #: AF0810 Description: Corner chair with curved top rail having carved foliage, fruit and face in center; arms ending in carved lions head handholds. 3 vase-turned and carved stiles seperated by 2 wide carved splats having eagle head and foliage and vine motifs. Rectangular needlepoint upholstered seat with inner springs. Seat rails extending to form fluted, ring and vase legs. Seat rails scalloped and carved. Materials: Walnut. Needlepoint upholstery. Walnut "Jenny Lind" Poster Baby Bed Item #: AF0845 Description: Short child's bed with 4 matching spool-turned high posts with turned and carved flame finials. Slender spool-turned spindles connecting top and lower rails. Rail height rectangular blocks at the corners continue down to turned legs and cylindrical feet. Comments: Johanna Maria Lind (October 6, 1820 – November 2, 1887), better known as Jenny Lind, was a Swedish opera singer , often known as the "Swedish Nightingale". One of the most highly regarded singers of the 19th century, she is known for her performances in soprano roles in Sweden and across Europe, and for an extraordinarily popular concert tour of America beginning in 1850. Many places and objects have been named for Lind, during her visit to America, she was reported to have slept in a bed with turned spindles, leading to the naming of the style of crib or baby bed with vertical bars on all sides as a "Jenny Lind crib" (or cot or cradle).
