Victorian Walnut & Marble Dresser Item #: AF0880 Description: Tall, mirrored dresser with elaborately scrolled back and cornice, ending in arched pediment above rectangular mirror. Top has marble insert well-like area between 2 small drawers. 3 full-length drawers below having molded and shaped burl panels. Sides are paneled. Scrolled front skirt with bracket feet and porcelain casters. Materials: Walnut and walnut burl. Pine secondary. Turned wood pulls. Porcelain casters. Dimensions: Height: 82". Width: 39". Early Immigrant's Trunk Item #: AF0445 Description: Large chest with dome-shaped lift top. Left front and right rear panels with screened crescent moon cut-outs for ventilation. 3 Iron straps wrap the trunk to serve as structure, hinges and latches. Forged lift handles on sides. Hammered angled metal to protect corners attached with rose head nails. 2 large iron locks on front panel. Materials: Wood. Iron hinges, straps and locks. Dimensions: Height: 34-1/2". Width: 55". Depth: 23". Locality and Period: Probably European. c. 1815. Comments: Used by immigrant's coming to the United States in the late 18th and early 19th centuries this massive trunk would hold the entire possesions of the traveling family. This example has the unique feature of crescent moon cutouts, one in the front and one in back, to provide ventilation during long ocean voyages. Price: $895.00

Protruding molding at base of well and shaped bracket feet. 6-board, dovetailed construction. Materials: Cherry & pine with red wash. Pine secondary. Iron butt hinges. Dimensions: Height: 23-1/2". Width: 49-1/2". Depth: 22". Locality and Period: New England west to Missouri, south to the Carolinas. c. 1830. Comments: 6-board chests were designed to store clothing, blankets and other bulky items. They were favored by rural carpenters because they were easier to make than taller chest-over-drawers. Full-length drawer decorated with incised floral forms over paneled cupboard door and 2 half-length drawer. Paneled sides. Plain skirt and molded base. Shaped stiles with incised decoration terminating in block feet and pocelain casters. Materials: Cherry. Pine secondary. Top white marble. Pulls; stamped brass plates with bail handles. Porcelain casters. Dimensions: Height: 37". Width: 30". Depth: 15-3/4". Locality and Period: Large factories throughout the East and Midwest. c. 1875. Comments: More expensive that all-wood pieces, marble-top commodes were popular and practical since commodes were constantly getting wet, the marble top protected the wood. Turned bun feet doweled and nailed on. Grain painted with 6-board dovetail construction. Materials: Yellow pine, walnut. Painted in yellow and ochre to imitate expensive woods. Golden Oak Marble Top Dresser Item #: AF0323 Description: Tall dresser with removable, molded, overhanging marble top. Backboard with molded cornice and fluted columns supporting rectangular, beveled mirror; frame decorated with incised lines and rosettes at the corners. Below top, 3 full length graduated drawers, each with incised band carving, matching bands on stiles. Plain skirt. Paneled, glued, nailed and screwed construction. Materials: Oak. Pine secondary. Stamped brass pulls. Dimensions: Height: 73-1/2" top of mirror, 29-1/2" marble top. Width: 42". Depth: 19". Locality and Period: Factories throughout the East and Midwest. c.1880-90. Comments: Marble-top dressers were more expensive than ones with wooden surfaces, particularly since the stone was often imported from Europe. They were quite popular not only for their appearance but also because the marble top was durable and easy to clean. Price: SOLD
