Description: Sewing or work table with rectangular top and 2 drop leaves having rounded corners and fluted edges. Front has 3 narrow drawers with round brass pulls. Lowest drawer opening to suspended fabric bag with smaller bottom board. Legs block-shaped alongside drawers; below, ring and vase-shaped capitals set atop tapered, spiral turnings. Ring turned tapered feet ending in brass casters.  
Materials: Mahogany solids & veneers. Pine secondary. Brass casters & pulls. Cloth catch bag (replaced).
Dimensions: Height: 28-1/4". Width: 19" (closed), 36" (opened). Depth: 17-3/4".
Locality and Period: New England, likely Massachusetts. c. 1800-1810.
Comments: Sheraton-influenced Federal designs are often most appealing when decorated by both fine graining and delicate carving. The fabric bag for storing sewing materials was favored in the early 19th century.

Description: Table with rectangular top and 2 solid board drop leaves that have rounded corners all of which are beautifully figured. Straight skirt flanked by corner blocks. Baluster-shaped pedestal with acanthus leaf and checked carving. Legs carved in elaborate leaf-and-scroll design, terminating in hairy lion's paw feet on casters.
Materials: Mahogany.
Dimensions: Height: 29". Width: 39". Depth: 23-1/2" closed, 38-1/4" open.
Locality and Period: New York. c. 1830.
Comments: Drop-leaf tables were popular in the early 19th century, particularly in New York. This well executed table shows copious carving, finely detailed work and heavy proportions typical of Empire furniture. It was probably used in one of the Empire-era middle-class townhouses, where it could double as a center and dining table.

Comments: Though the Art Nouveau style was tremendously popular in Europe at the turn of the century, American examples were produced in relatively small quantities making them hard to come by and extremely desirable.

Description: Card table with rectangular top having rounded corners and reeded edge. Skirt conforms to outline of top and is veneered on front and sides; narrow edge of contrasting inlaid veneer along bottom. Rear legs swing out to support opened top. Legs ring turned and tapering to arrow feet.
Materials: Mahogany solids and veneers, satinwood banding.
Dimensions: Height: 29". Width: 36". Depth: 16-1/2" closed, 33" open.
Locality and Period: Probably New York. c. 1800-10.
Comments: Card tables were never more popular than in the Federal era and followed Sheraton models with delicate lines and handsome graining before tastes changed after 1815 when card tables were produced with thicker elements. The reeded edge of this table reflects designs that were fashionable in New York and the Duncan Phyfe school.

Comments: Country Sheraton furnishings were simple interpretations of the fashionable late Federal style that was popular during the early 1800's. The turnings and tapering of the legs were not as sophisticated or delicate as urban examples but had not adopted the heavy proportions of the emerging Empire style.

Description: 3 tier mahogany table with graduating levels of "pie crust" shelves connected by a central turned and carved column. Base consiting of 3 cabriole legs with carved knees and terminating in ball & claw feet.
Materials: Mahogany.

Locality and Period: Labeled "Mersman Tables". Ohio. c. 1930.
Comments: During the 100+ year life of the Mersman company it churned out over 30 million tables, many in the Colonial Revival style. In the 1920's the company bragged that one out of ten tables in American homes was a Mersman.
